A 13-year-old juvenile is suspected of starting a brush fire that burned in a canyon in the El Cerrito area, according to San Diego fire officials.
Fire officials said the blaze broke out in a canyon near University Avenue and 54th Street shortly before 2 p.m.
Maurice Luque of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said the juvenile is suspected of starting the fire with a lighter.
The fire prompted evacuations of Crawford High School and an apartment building on 5722 University Ave.
San Diego Unified School District officials said Crawford High was on a half-day schedule, with students being let out at 12:30 p.m. About 50 students and some teachers and school staff who were still on the campus were evacuated when the fire broke out.
District officials said there has been no reports of damage to the school.
Fire officials said 65 firefighters, with the help of helicopter water drops, were able to douse the flames after about 45 minutes.
The fire burned about 2 1/4 acres, fire officials said.
No injuries and structure damage was reported.
