Polce say the four-month-old baby had been left Friday night in a car in the parking lot of the Bella Vista Apartments on Mollison Avenue and wasn't discovered until Saturday afternoon when family members found the baby inside the car.
Here is the statement from El Cajon Police:
On July 27, 2013 at approximately 1:30 PM, Police Officers and Fire Paramedics responded to a 911 call of a 4 month old baby not breathing at 545 N. Mollison apartment #55, in El Cajon. When officers arrived they immediately began CPR on the infant until Fire Paramedics arrived. Fire personnel immediately transported the infant who was unresponsive to an area hospital for treatment. Unfortunately the infant passed away shortly after arrival.
An investigation into this incident determined the parents of the infant had left the baby in their car overnight after returning from shopping on July 26th. The infant was discovered in the vehicle by family members shortly before calling the police at approximately 1:30 PM on July 27th.
As a result of this criminal negligence both parents were arrested and later booked into County Jail. The father, Israel Soto 30 yrs., was charged with "Wiillful Cruelty to a Child with Injury/ Death". The mother, Jessica Quezada 23 yrs., was charged with "Willful Cruelty to a Child with Injury/ Death" and "Possession of a Controlled Substance".
The parent's other three children who are 3 years, 2 years and 1 year old, were taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.
The County Medical Examiner?s Office has yet to determine the exact cause of death of the infant at this time.
