Firefighters discovered two people dead inside a burning home early Friday morning in Fallbrook.

Firefighters with the North County Fire Protection District responded to the 1966 Rice Canyon Rd. sometime before 1:30 a.m. to find the home ablaze.

"When they first got here, they found huge flames coming from the back of the house," said John Buchanan, a spokesperson for North County Fire.

"My guys said that this fire was really ripping when they got here, and it was throughout half the house."

When firefighters entered, they found the bodies inside.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Bomb-Arson Unit responded to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. Buchanan said it was not immediately clear if foul play was involved.

The identities of the victims were not released.

Several agencies rushed to the scene to assist in the firefight, including Cal Fire, the Deer Springs Fire Protection District and the Rainbow, Oceanside and Pala fire departments.
