The officer-involved shooting in the 600 block of 64th Street was reported at 7:50 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.
Paramedics took two patients to Scripps Mercy Hospital, a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher said. The extent of their injuries was unclear.
The transported patients were not officers and both sustained gunshot wounds, said San Diego police Officer Ed Zwibel. It was not immediately clear who fired the shots that struck them.
Homicide detectives were en route to investigate, as is protocol with all officer-involved shootings regardless of whether anyone is fatally wounded.
