An investigation was underway Friday into the death of a 5-year-old girl who was killed when when she was accidentally run over by a minivan that was being backed up by her mother in Ramona.

The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Thursday on Carnation Avenue, near Main Street, a sheriff's dispatcher said.

Medics airlifted the child to a hospital, where she died from her injuries, authorities said.

The child was a kindergartner named Bella, her father, William Noble,
told local media.

The girl's mother began backing up, unaware Bella and her other children were sitting on the minivan's rear bumper, Noble told the station.

Bella jumped off and was run over, Noble said.
