A Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service for San Diego County has expired as of 6 p.m. Saturday. With windy conditions and low humidity,  fire officials were on high alert for much of the day.

On Thursday, at least two brush fires burned dozens of acres in the East County. Bortisser admits if a Red Flag Warning had been in place on Thursday, the situation could have been a lot worse.

The cause of Thursday's three brush fires along Interstate 8 in the El Cajon and Lakeside areas remained under investigation Friday. The two fires at Greenfield Drive and Los Coches Road threatened some homes before firefighters, using helicopters and planes, were able to knock down the flames. A smaller third fire was reported near Alpine near I-8 and Dunbar Lane.
