Fire crews were able to put out two brush fires that burned off westbound Interstate 8 near Mollison Avenue and 2nd Street.

The fires broke out just after 12 p.m., sending smoke onto the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. A Sig Alert was issued at 12:30 p.m.

At least one lane on westbound I-8 at 2nd Street was blocked, and the 2nd Street onramp was closed due to the firefighting effort.

Crews were able to douse the flames just after 1 p.m.

No structures were threatened, according to the CHP.
