A Navy spokesman says Captain Gregory McWherter was relieved of his post as executive officer at Naval Base Coronado.  He has been in that position since November of 2013.   McWherter was temporarily reassigned to the Naval Air Forces in San Diego.

The action taken by the Navy against the former Blue Angels commander is believed to be related to an on-going investigation into allegations of an "inappropriate command climate" at the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron which is based at Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida.

The reported accusations being investigated stem from alleged incidents that happened when McWherter served as Blue Angels commanding officer, in 2009 and 2010 and from May 2011 to November 2012.
