Police in San Diego said they have arrested the owner of a gun used in the shooting death of a 10-year-old Scripps Ranch boy.  The San Diego Police Department said Todd Francis turned himself in at SDPD Headquarters Tuesday night. He was booked and released from county jail after posting bail.

On June 4, a resident who heard a gunshot and then found Eric Klyaz lying in the fetal position near a distraught friend in a garage at a condominium complex in the 10900 block of Ivy Hill Drive in Scripps Ranch, according to San Diego police.

According to investigators, the boy was playing with a 9-year-old girl in her garage when they found the loaded gun. There were no adults in the house. The girl's 14-year-old brother was supposed to be watching them, but he was upstairs.  Police told 10News the kids were apparently playing with the gun when Eric was accidentally shot in the chest.

In Arizona, a similar tragedy is under investigation as police investigate how a four-year-old boy was able to get access to a gun that discharged, killing his father, an ex-Green Beret combat soldier.
