The National Weather Service in San Diego says the heat wave is ending and Tuesday's highs were expected to be 10 degrees cooler across most of the metro area. It was 101 in Santee, 102 in Poway and 104 near the San Diego Safari Park east of Escondido.
Monday's record highs also included Ramona and Campo with 100 degree readings. Alpine reached 99, one degree above the record, set in 1979. And Chula Vista set a new record high temperature for the date as the thermometer in the South Bay city reached 92 degrees. The earlier record was set way back in 1918.
