Authorities say  a 45-year-old man died when flipped his car several times and crashed on State Route 52 in Santee overnight Thursday.
Medics in a Balboa ambulance witnessed the crash and reported it shortly before 1 a.m. Friday, east of the Cuyamaca Street off-ramp. According to California Highway Patrol, the 2013 Lexus G35 was headed east on SR-52 when it lost control while taking a curve. The car rolled a number of times down an embankment and hit a concrete wall. The wrecked vehicle was found on the roadside near the bottom of the ramp.

The driver died at the scene, CHP reported.
Officials said a railroad crossing sign and a wooden post were damaged.

The ramp was temporarily closed after the crash, but reopened shortly after 3 a.m.

Troopers are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
