Residents called in at 3:40 a.m. on Thursday with reports of hearing banging on walls followed by the sound of gunfire.

Deputies set up a command post on Calle Conejo off Alpine Village Drive and evacuated residents from the immediate area.

There were no reports of injuries, according to a spokesman for the Sheriff's Department.

Arriving patrol personnel discovered shell casings in front of one of the rental units at the complex but found no gunshot victims or property damage, Lt. Clayton Lisk said. The deputies took five people into custody for
questioning, eventually releasing four of them and jailing the other on an unrelated warrant, the lieutenant said.

It was unclear what led to the gunfire, though a loud gathering at the residence where it occurred had led to a noise complaint earlier in the night, sheriff's officials told reporters.
