The City Council voted to have a special election on Nov. 19 to fill the post of outgoing Mayor Bob Filner, whose resignation becomes official at 5 p.m. Friday.

The cost of the special election is expected to be about $6 million dollars.

Among the possible major candidates who have been mentioned, only Nathan Fletcher has formally announced his candidacy.

But others who are considered possible candidates to succeed Filner include council members Kevin Faulconer and Todd Gloria, along with Carl DeMaio who is a declared candidate for Congress in 2014.
