A new population study says San Diego is losing gen-x-ers to other states because of the high cost of housing.

The study says that instead of 35-to-49 year olds choosing San Diego for economic reasons as in the past, they're moving to other states because they can't afford suitable housing to raise their families.

The president of the Institute, Erik Bruvold, says businesses are also moving.

At the same time, he says, the study shows more baby boomers than before are deciding not to move away when they retire because they own their homes.
