The juvenile accused of starting the big brush fire in San Marcos in May is a girl. She appeared in juvenile court today for a scheduled arraignment...but her name and age were not released.

Formal charges were not filed against her today because the judge postponed the hearing until the girl has a mental competency exam. She is not in juvenile custody but the judge ruled that she cannot leave her home without her parents and can only do so during the day and not at night.

She is accused of setting the so-called Cocos Fire that burned nearly 2,000 acres and destroyed almost 40 homes.

Arson investigators don't believe the girl was responsible for any of the other 12 fires that broke out in the San Diego area during one week in May.
