(Avon Lake)-Rare piebald deer have been spotted by several people in Avon Lake.

They are white-tailed deer with a genetic defect. They have some brown patches and are not albino deer which are all white with pink eyes.

In addition, piebald deer may have a bowing or Roman nose and short legs and lower jaws.

Less than one percent of white-tailed deer are affected. The piebald deer is susceptible to predators because it remains one color all year long.

Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka believes there are now three or four including the fawn you see here.
