Navy Man Killed In Horton Plaza Shooting

An active duty Navy sailor was killed in a shooting at Horton Plaza Saturday night.  Police are still looking for the two men accused of opening fire, killing James Celani of San Diego and injuring his cousin, a 29-year-old Riverside man. San Diego Police homicide detectives say it happened around 11:45p.m. on the 7th floor of Horton Plaza, outside of the Mad House Comedy Club.

Celani, a Navy aviator, sustained several gunshot wounds to his chest and was transported to UCSD Medical Center, when he died.  His cousin sustained a minor gunshot wound to his leg and will survive his injury, according to police.

Police say for an unknown reason, the two were confronted by two other men, who started a confrontation.  One of the suspects then shot both men.  The two suspects ran north through Horton Plaza and got away.

Police asked anyone with information regarding the incident to call homicide detectives at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
