It sure is going to be interesting to see what happens next.

Now that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has taken away the Washington Redskins’ trademark.

The government office canceled the team’s trademarks because they said the team name, “Redskins” is “disparaging to Native Americans.”

Whether you agree or disagree, could this ruling impact lots of other team names in professional or college or even high school sports?

Such as the Cleveland Indians or the Kansas City Chiefs.  Or what about the Florida State Seminoles or the Arizona Sun Devils

Here in San Diego, there have been calls in the not too recent past about the San Diego State team name, the Aztecs.

And could there be some group that even thinks the name Padres is offensive or disparaging to Catholic priests?

What the trademark ruling probably means for the Washington Redskins, is that they will become the Washington “whatevers”.

But they’d better be careful what name they choose, because in the nation’s capital, there are lots of disparaging names they call each other.
