It doesn’t happen often but when it does, it makes news and makes us wonder why.
You’ve heard the story. The medical examiner ruling the death of a young woman who drove the wrong way on Highway 67 was a suicide, meaning she did it on purpose.
The tragedy is she took an innocent person with her. A 49-year-old Alpine man, the driver of the vehicle she hit.
When we hear about cases like this…we get angry and confused. Angry at a woman who would so such a selfish thing. Confused because we don’t get it. How does someone do something like this?
Purposely go the wrong way on a freeway and drive into an innocent person so you can kill yourself?
Mental health experts may have an answer.
We certainly talk a lot these days about mental health problems causing people to do terrible things.
Let’s just hope this case is another wake-up call that we’d better stop talking about it and do something about it.
