Take it from a guy who know, it is expensive to raise children...and grandchildren. A new report from the Department of agriculture says parents, on average, can expect to spend $233,610 between birth and the age of 18 on things like housing, food, child care, clothing and health care. That works out to about $13,000 a year, up three percent from 2015.
And, as any parent knows who has raised a kid, things get more expensive when the little darlings become teenagers. My wife and I raised a son and daughter. It is much more expensive to raise a girl, trust me. Our oldest grandkid is just a couple of months away from becoming a teenager and she has learned the fine art of getting her grandparents to pay for things her mom and dad have nixed. We love it.
