Thursday evening, March 16, the Susan G Komen foundation is hosting a sold out event at the Del Mar Marriott Hotel with the very latest information breast cancer.
Journalist and breast cancer survivor Joan Lunden will moderate the event.
Dr. Deborah Rhodes is one of the experts who will be speaking. She is a Komen scholar and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic. She and her team used duct tape to develop and study a new breast cancer screening tool called molecular breast imaging (mbi), which has been proven to be 400 times more effective than mammograms for women with dense breast tissue.
In San Diego, six women a day are diagnosed with breast cancer but if detected early enough the most common type of breast cancer has a nearly 99% survival rate.
Thursday's event benefits the Komen San Diego’s Mobile Mammography coach, which goes to every community in the county giving mammograms to uninsured or underinsured women.
