Man Killed During Confrontation with SDPD

San Diego police officers shot and killed a man Monday night who was reportedly suicidal when he threatened officers with a knife in an East Village apartment.

The San Diego Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the incident under county protocol, says the shooting occurred after officers responded to an apartment on E Street near Park Boulevard around 6:55 p.m. when a caller told police dispatchers he had come home to find his roommate had attempted suicide with a knife.

When patrol officers, they had six people leave the apartment before they confronted the man inside the apartment.

A Sheriff's Office statement said “The subject was holding a knife and threatening the officers. Officers ordered the subject to drop the knife when an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

After shooting the man, the two officers began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died. No officers were hurt.
