Forward Progress of Carlsbad Fire Stopped

Fire crews were battling a brush fire in Carlsbad that broke out Thursday afternoon.

The fire, dubbed the “Claro Fire,” was reported around 2:45 p.m. in the area of Corte Claro and Paseo Encino, sending a large plume of smoke into the air, as captured by one nearby resident.

Units from multiple agencies responded to the fire, including the Carlsbad Fire Department, San Marcos Fire Department and several air tactical units from Cal Fire San Diego.

As of 5 p.m, flames had burned through at last 45 acres in a canyon behind homes on the edge of the city and neighboring San Marcos, but forward rate of spread has been stopped, according to the San Marcos Fire Department.
