San Marcos Burglar Shot And Killed By Deputies

A scary morning for a San Marcos family after a burglar with a baseball bat broke into their home.  The suspect was killed by Sheriff's deputies.

It happened around 3:15 Thursday morning at a home in the Silver Crest gated community along the 600 block of Edgewater drive.  Sheriff's Lt. Greg Rylaarsdam tells KOGO News that police got a call saying there was a man with a baseball bat who had broken into the home.

When deputies got to the house, the burglar ran into the garage, got into the homeowner's car and backed into another car in the driveway before trying to run away.  The suspect then got into some sort of altercation with deputies, and that's when he was shot.

Paramedics tried to save the suspect, but he died at the scene.  No other injuries were reported.  Deputies will be on scene most of the day as the investigation continues.
