Man Survives After Jumping from Freeway Bridge

A man described by police as possibly suicidal was rushed to a hospital after he jumped from a freeway bridge late Friday morning into some bushes below at a major San Diego freeway interchange where he had been for more than 20 hours.

As police tried to talk him into letting them help him, the man forced closures of freeway lanes and leading to long traffic back-ups on the freeways and surrounding side streets that began Thursday afternoon and continued Friday morning till he suddenly jumped from the bridge landing in some shrubbery below.

Emergency crews set up an inflatable bag on the roadway below.  Suicide prevention specialists were assisting and urging drivers to be patient and urged understanding.
