How a Bomb Blast in Afghanistan Hits Home

AFGHANISTAN-UNREST-ATTACK MAY 31 2017

The latest terrorist bombing, this time in the capital city of Afghanistan, may seem like a far off place.

But for thousands of U.S. military personnel, including many from San Diego’s Navy and Marine bases, it hits home. Again.

The U.S. has been at war against terrorists for more than 15 years and it remains a dangerous place for our military personnel still there, as well as our diplomats who are there, and our civilians who are there, that include private contractors and many Christian missionaries from the U.S.who are there trying to help.

And as yet another reminder of the twisted and evil beliefs of terrorists who claim allegiance to a God, the bomb blast in Kabul comes just a few days into the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

And it happened in an area and at a time when the streets in the city are packed with commuters, women shopping and children going to school with the blast appearing to be designed with a target of a high civilian death toll.’

A US military spokesman in Kabul tells CNN today attacks of this kind "tend to be signs of weakness" among the terrorist groups because they are not winning on the battlefield so they can easily build a vehicle bomb and drive it into the center of a city.

But he claims the security situation in Afghanistan is being stabilized despite what happened there today.

A lot of American military families in San Diego are hoping and praying that that is true.
