Community Conversations About Next San Diego Police Chief

SDPD

San Diegans are encouraged to participate in the City of San Diego’s search for its next Chief of Police. Public input will be gathered during six community conversation workshops throughout the City and through an online survey, which is now available.

“The police chief serves all of San Diego and so it is important that every resident has the opportunity to have their voice heard as we conduct this search,” said Mayor Kevin Faulconer. “This survey is just one of several ways San Diegans can participate in the selection process and I encourage everyone to participate.”

The first community conversation workshop is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, 404 Euclid Ave. The full workshop schedule is below and available online.

“It is important for the community to come out and voice their thoughts on what qualities, principles, values and effective leadership skills they want in their next police chief,” said Council President Myrtle Cole.

The community conversations will be structured similarly to successful workshops held by other cities in their police chief recruitment processes. The workshops will feature discussions with small groups and then a large group conversation led by a facilitator to provide an opportunity for input from all interested attendees.

Spanish translation services will be available at every workshop. Additional language services will be available as noted below.
