Government Employee Placed On Leave After Viral Airplane Tantrum

A woman who was removed from a Delta flight in New York earlier in the month has been placed on leave from her government job. According to USA Today, the New York Council of the Arts confirmed an employee from their office had been placed on leave while they investigate her conduct in a viral Facebook video.

The woman, who was identified as Susan Peirez, was recorded throwing a tantrum on a Delta flight leaving John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City. She was upset because she had to sit next to a crying baby and demanded a new seat on the flight to Syracuse, which takes about 1.5 hours. Marissa Rundell, the woman who recorded the video, said Peirez was one of the last people to board the flight was angry to be seated in the back of the plane.

When Rundell, who is the mother of the "crying baby," asked her to watch her language the woman become even more incensed.

At one point she told the flight attendant she would lose her job and even mentioned her job as a government employee in an effort to get a new seating assignment.

Peirez, who earns $950,000 as a director for the Council of the Arts, is no longer listed on the agencies website. A spokesman for the agency said they "have commenced an investigation" into the incident.

"We were notified of this situation and have commenced an investigation," Reich said in a statement. "This employee has been removed from the office and placed on leave until further notice and until the inquiry is resolved.”
