Investigators Look For Arsonist at Kensington Area Elementary School

A small fire broke out Monday morning on the campus of an elementary school in Kensington, and authorities believe it was arson. A person who lives near Franklin Elementary School on Copeland Avenue called 911 after seeing smoke and flames on the campus around 5:40a.m.

San Diego Fire-Rescue Department sent several engines and trucks to the school, but only the crew from one engine was needed to quickly douse the flames. The fire scorched a lost-and-found bin and a coat rack, and blackened the outside wall of the auditorium.

There were no injuries, and students weren't yet in the school. The fire will not affect classes. Arson investigators say the think the fire was intentionally set, and ask anyone with information to call the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
