Why the Change of Seasons is Earlier

Despite lots of kids already back in school, summer isn’t over yet.

Summer doesn’t officially end till Sept 23rd, when Fall officially arrives.  And we know despite the cooler weather here at the end of August, more hot weather is ahead next month.

But for Starbucks and dozens of other shops and retailers, summer is already over.

The evidence?  This week, Starbucks is starting to sell its popular Pumpkin Spice Latte, its traditional beverage of the traditional fall season,  But this year Starbucks is stirring up Pumpkin Spice Lattes a little earlier than usual. Say goodbye to tradition.

But they’re not the only ones. For weeks now it’s been hard to find swimwear in many clothing stores even here in the San Diego area.

And as the swimwear selection has dwindled already in August, something else has already shown up.  Halloween things.  They’re everywhere.

Maybe you’ve noticed those huge white tents already set up around the county selling everything Halloween…already open for business now, more than two months before costumed trick or treaters head out the door.

And of course you don’t have to look very long before you see some stores already selling Christmas decorations.   By the end of this coming Labor Day weekend, chances are there will be lots of signs of Santa and his toys in local stores.

Of course, retailers wouldn’t be starting to sell traditional fall and winter holiday things unless there was a demand for them.  And every year, as they start earlier and earlier, the demand is there.

So this Labor Day weekend, don’t feel guilty about enjoying a pumpkin spice latte and checking out some spooky costumes.
