San Diego Unified School District Trustee Shows No Sign of Resigning

San Diego Unified School District board member Kevin Beiser showed up at a Tuesday night meeting after the other board members called on him to resign.

In early April, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to ask Beiser to step down because of sexual assault allegations.

A lawsuit filed against Beiser by a former political consultant who worked for him for several years claimed Beiser repeatedly sexually assaulted him for years and created a “hostile work environment.”

Beiser has denied the allegations, saying the claims are “politically motivated” and “we intend to vigorously defend ourselves.”

While the school board has no legal authority to remove anyone who has been duly elected by voters, the board can vote to call for a member’s resignation.

“I have not heard any comment from anyone who has said he should not resign, so it’s been pretty unanimous,” John Lee Evans, vice president of the school board, told reporting partner 10News “Mr. Beiser certainly has a right to defend himself in the court of law. We just do not believe it’s reasonable that he’s going to defend himself in court and at the same time effectively serve the public,” Evans added.
