Rabbi Wounded in Poway Synagogue Shooting Recalls Tragedy

Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein who was shot and wounded Saturday during a shooting at a synagogue in Poway spoke on Sunday about the woman who was killed.

The rabbi, who was struck in the hand by gunfire when a man walked into the Chabad of Poway shortly before noon says Lori Kaye, always went out of her way to help people in need and described her as a dear friend.

During a news conference, Goldstein discussed what happened that morning. He recalls greeting Kaye who was there to take part in the services marking the last day of Passover. Moments later as he was walking away, Goldstein heard gunshots and turned around to see the suspect pointing his firearm at him.

Goldstein saw Kaye on the ground. He says Kaye's husband, a physician, tried to give her CPR. Kaye later died.

Goldstein lost one of his index fingers. Also wounded in the shooting were Almog Peretz and 8-year-old Noya Dahan.

The suspect, 19-year-old John Earnest was arrested a short time later and was booked on charges including first-degree murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder.
