How to Stop the Evil Acts at Places of Worship After Poway

You’ve heard it talked about in these days after the synagogue shooting in Poway.

How do we stop these things from happening? It wasn’t long ago that sadly we became used to sitting down in a movie theater, or nightclub or concert or even walking into a school to be looking where the nearest exits were, just in case some crazy gunman were to show up.

But now we have begun to think that way when we are at our place of worship. The shooting at the Chabad of Poway last Saturday in our own community was not the first.Coincidentally it happened six months to the day of a worse shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh where 11 were killed.

And we still remember the deadly shootings at Christian churches in Texas and South Carolina.

It’s come to the point now that California’s governor has had to change the state budget to include millions of dollars for places of worship to use to increase security, to make a place of worship a safe place again.

Many of the people who spoke at the funeral for Lori at the synagogue and who spoke at the vigil at Poway High spoke boldly of not letting places of worship being invaded by evil people who carry out evil acts.

Many saying we must not only defend against attacks…. but that we must stand up and fight against these evil forces.

And in the end, places of worship may be the best places to do that.
