Four-Year-Old Took Great-Grandfather's SUV For Joyride To Get Candy

A four-year-old boy from Minnesota had a craving for some candy, so he decided to drive to the store to go get some. Sebastian watched his great-grandfather Roy Becker drive his Hyundai Santa Fe and knew exactly what to do when he got behind the wheel.

First, he needed to get the keys. He used Roy's walker to grab them off of a wall hook that was out of his reach and then headed outside and climbed into the driver's seat. He backed out of the driveway and began the mile-and-a-half drive to Speedway.

When Sebastian's mother realized he was missing, she began to panic.

"Panic, anxiety," his mother Jenna Swenson told Fox 9. "A little of almost all the emotions going on... trying to calculate what happened."

Police found the young boy unharmed in the parking lot of the Speedway. It is a miracle that he didn't get hurt during the drive. He had to navigate windy residential roads and then make a left turn on a busy four-lane road during the morning rush hour. Along the way, he struck some mailboxes and swiped a tree. Part of the SUV's bumper was found in the street in front of his neighbor's house.

"It could've been very serious," Roy said. "He could've hit a car. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt. We could be talking about a funeral."

The family says they will lock up their car keys going forward and make sure to keep a closer eye on Sebastian.
