ICE Expected to Launch Raids Targeting People Living in the U.S. Illegally

Agents with ICE are reportedly planning to launch raids on Sunday in ten targeted cities from Los Angeles to Miami, to round up families who are in the U.S. illegally.

President Trump on Monday made mention of an upcoming action in the Tweet below. His tweet went out on the same day that he held a rally in Orlando, Florida during which he officially launched his relection campaign.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting Director Mark Morgan told ABC his agency will focus on more than 2,000 families that have been issued past deportation orders but have not presented themselves to authorities. He says the priority of agents on Sunday will be to locate families who have not responded after receiving final orders from judges.

Morgan says it's about the rule of law and maintaining the integrity of the system. WATCH THE FULL INTERVIEW BELOW.

Critics say the raids are a political stunt by the Trump Administration. A County Supervisor in Los Angeles where protests were held on Thursday over reports of the round-ups, says she thinks the administration is trying to score political points with its base.

California Governor Newsom on Friday issued this statement regarding the raids.

“The President’s proposed raids are cruel, misdirected and are creating unnecessary fear and anxiety. I want Californians to know they have legal rights and protections, regardless of their immigration status. California is a place of refuge – that includes our schools, our courts and our hospitals and clinics. We hold certain institutions sacred and people should continue to access programs and services they need.”
