WATCH: Biggest Headline in Dallas Cop Trial Was About Forgiveness

It was a big trial that got a lot of news coverage.

The trial of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger who was convicted of murder this week for shooting to death Botham Jean, a man she said she thought was an intruder in her apartment, after mistakenly walking into his apartment instead of her own.

In a state like Texas where justice can be handed out quickly, the former cop was sentenced the next day to 10 years in prison.

The case was filled with unusual circumstances and fueled debates over police use of force and racism because the man this white officer shot and killed was a black man. Activists wanted a much longer prison sentence.

But in the end, what was most unusual about this trial is what happened at the end….when the brother of the man who was killed did something no one could have expected.

As reported by Fox 4 TV in Dallas, Brandt Jean told Amber Guyger that he forgives her and said he thinks his brother would have wanted her to turn her life over to Christ, and that if she can ask God for forgiveness, she will get it.

He went on to say, "I don’t even want you to go to jail….I love you as a person. I don't wish anything bad on you," and then he asked if he could give her a hug.

The judge agreed. So he stood up and embraced her in a moment of grace and forgiveness, a moment caught on video and has lots of Christians asking themselves if they could do that.
