San Diego County's health agency reported Saturday that the number of deaths from COVID-19 rose by one to a total of 18.
Health officials said a man in his early 70's is the latest county resident to die from the coronavirus. The county reported a one day increase of 97 coronavirus cases bringing the current reported total to 1,209.
At the daily county briefing Saturday afternoon, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher urged everyone to continue to stay at home except for essential trips and to wear a face covering when out in areas where there are other people. Fletcher said, "Our success depends on every person doing their part to protect themselves and others in this especially critical month of April."
Fletcher asked residents to go to the county's coronavirus website and make a public pledge to follow the orders and guidelines aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus. CLICK HERE.
District Attorney Summer Stephan warned residents to be alert for scams involving those seeking personal information and claiming to be from a government agency related to the paycheck protection relief money. She also warned of scams involving phony cures and urged everyone to check with county health officials for factual and reliable information, Stephan also urged people to report price gouging, saying they have issued at least two dozen cease and desist orders.
