Police Say San Diego Air Force Vet Shot as Protesters Pushed Through Door

The woman who was shot and killed inside the U.S. Capitol during the protests Wednesday was a military veteran from San Diego.

The husband of Ashli Babbitt says she was 35 years old and a 14-year Air Force veteran. Babbitt's husband told KUSI TV in San Diego that she was a strong supporter of President Trump and called her a "great patriot". A graphic video (below) posted on social media showed the woman lying on the floor in a hallway area as Trump supporters were gathered around the chambers of the U.S. Senate.

According to social media, Ashli Babbit lived in Ocean Beach with her husband and she traveled to Washington, D.C. on Tuesday to take part in the "Save America" rally. She was a vocal supporter of the president on social media and she took part in the Trump boat parade on San Diego Bay in September. She grew up in lakeside and most recently ran a pool service and supply company. Capitol police say she was shot as protesters tried to push through a barricaded door inside the U.S. Capitol building. The Metropolitan Police Department says an investigation into her death continues.
