Up To 5.7 Million Californians Will Receive Golden State Stimulus Checks

Nearly 5.7 million Californians are expected to receive the $600 Golden State Stimulus payment.

The money is meant for low-income residents and to help those who are facing hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligibility will be determined based on their 2020 tax returns.

To qualify for the Golden State Stimumus, residents must:

  • File their 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021
  • Have lived in the state for more than half of the 2020 tax year
  • Be a California resident on the date the payment is issued
  • Be a CalEITC recipient or an ITIN filer who made $75,000 or less

Those who meet these qualifications will either receive a one-time $600 payment or a $1,200 payment.

For those who filed before March 1, 2021, the distribution of the payments has already started.

For those who plan to file their tax return after April 23, they should expect up to 45 days after the return has processed to see a direct deposit and up to 60 days to receive a paper check.

Since the payments will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis, those who filed their taxes after March 1 can check this website for their expected wait time.
