The widow of a U.S. Marine who was killed in a bombing in Afghanistan in August has given birth to a baby girl, reports the Associated Press.

The baby, Levi Rylee Rose McCollum, was born on Monday, September 13, at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, according to a Facebook post from the baby's grandmother, Jill Miller Crayton.

The baby's late father is Lance Cpl. Rylee McCollum, 20. He was one of the 13 U.S. soldiers killed in the suicide bombing that took place at the Kabul airport on August 26.

According to AP, several online fundraising efforts had raised around $1 million for the mother and the baby's education.

McCollum was from Bondurant, Wyoming, and was interested in becoming a soldier from an early age.

Hundreds of people gathered in the streets of Jackson, Wyoming on Friday, September 10, when McCollum's remains returned from Afghanistan, reports KTLA5.
