California Indoor Mask Mandate Extended Until Feb. 15

California's indoor mask mandate has been extended until at least February 15, due to the surge of COVD-19 cases being driven by the more contagious Omicron variant.

The indoor mask mandate, announced last month, was scheduled to end on January 15. Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly made the announcement at a statewide telephone briefing Wednesday.

Dr. Ghaly said the state's public health officials are concerned about California's overall hospital admissions for all conditions, including COVID-19. He said the state is adding staff and bed capacity to hospitals as a backup across California.
