San Diego State Falls Short in Battle for National Championship

The San Diego State Aztecs battled back late in the game but lost to the University of Connecticut by a score of 76-59 in the NCAA national championship game in Houston.

San Diego State ended its season with a loss but had its best season ever, advancing in the NCAA tournament to the Final Four and then the championship game.

The Aztecs defeated College of Charleston, Furman, Alabama, Creighton and Florida Atlantic University to make to the championship game, but fell behind, got to within five points but could not make a comeback as they did in earlier games in the NCAA tournament..

UConn captured its fifth national championship before 72,423 fans.
