Investigation Underway in Deputy Involved Shooting

A deputy-involved shooting in Fallbrook that resulted in a man being hospitalized was under investigation Friday.

According to San Diego Police Department investigators, sometime after 1 a.m., San Diego County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in the 4900 block of White Lilac Road, near Kendall Farms, in response to a man making suicidal threats.

Deputies on their way to the scene learned the subject, identified as a Hispanic male in his 40s, had access to firearms. The deputies were also informed of two children inside the house, according to investigators.

While details were not immediately clear on how the incident unfolded, SDPD investigators stated the deputies made contact with the man while he was armed with what was described as a long-scoped rifle.

At some point during the interaction, investigators said a shooting took place between at least one of the deputies and the man.

The man was shot multiple times and was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition was not known as of 8:45 a.m.
