The California State Track and Field Championships finished over the weekend with most of the attention surrounding the transgender athlete who competed in the girls jumping events.
AB Hernandez, a biological male, finished first in two out of three events but shared the gold medals with girls with the next highest scores under cif rules that were revised just last week.
Hernandez shared first place in the high jump with Jillene Wetteland and Lelani Laruelle. All three cleared a height of 5-feet, 7 inches, but Hernandez had no failed attempts, while the other two each had one failure.
Hernandez also had a first-place finish in the triple jump, sharing the top spot with Kira Gant Hatcher, who trailed her by two inches. Hernandez came in second in the long jump.
