All 6 People on Plane That Crashed off the Coast Presumed Dead

The Federal Aviation Administration announced Monday that all six people on board a Cessna 414 that crashed off of Point Loma Sunday afternoon are presumed dead.

According to the Aviation Safety Network, the six included the pilot and his wife along with a man and his three sons.

The U.S. Coast Guard said that the Cessna plane went down around 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, three miles west of Point Loma.

The FAA's preliminary report stated that the Cessna crashed "under unknown circumstances" into the waters off of Point Loma. The tail number for the aircraft was N414BA.

The Aviation Safety Network says the plane had mechanical issues just after leaving San Diego international, losing 19-hundred feet in 13 seconds, regaining some altitude, but then crashing six minutes after takeoff. The pilot was heard saying "Mayday. Mayday, Mayday". It was his last communication.

The Coast Guard has been searching the debris field since the crash.
