The front-page headlines on newspapers in the U.S. and around the world will be what history class students will be shown decades from now to describe what happened on January 6th of 2021.
Here’s just a sample of some of the headlines:
"CAPITAL ATTACK SHAKES NATION"
"CHAOS. ANARCHY. ASSAULT ON DEMOCRACY"
"ANARACHY IN AMERICA"
It was a day like none other in the history of the United States except for when the British stormed and burned the Capitol during the war of 1812. Until yesterday, no one would have thought that what happened could happen in our nation’s capital,. and in the capitol building itself, where portraits of many of the great Americans through our history fill the hallways and rotunda. But on January 6th, those hallways and the rotunda, were filled with protestors, police, tear gas and even gunfire, deadly gunfire.
How could this have happened? Why did it happen? Questions that need to be answered and will be answered.
History will certainly have some answers. And when middle school students come to their nation’s capital on their annual school trips, they will now be told of what happened on January 6th, 2021 when their nation was shaken by what happened. It is a history lesson that no American should ever forget...so that it never happens again.
