Good News and Bad News About the One-Year Long Pandemic

Here we are in January of 2021 now the deadliest month of the one year long pandemic.

Back then, there were few worries expressed that this virus that started in China would spread as far and as quickly as it did. And there were few if any who were predicting that a year later, there would be as many total deaths as there have been.

Here in San Diego, there have been 2,500 total lives list. At least 751 lives lost since the first day of 2021 and 83 more than in December.

The good news about the month of January is that vaccinations against the virus got underway. The bad news is the vaccinations are not happening fast enough with big problems and long lines getting the vaccine into people’s arms. And it’s become difficult to get appointments for those who are now eligible, health care workers and those 65 and over.

Thankfully, the county is adding a third Vaccination Super Station this weekend in the North County and another is expected to open soon in the East County. But the state’s pilot program in San Diego and L-A counties for making appointments on the “My Turn” website has become a My Problem for many people trying to use it.

The Biden administration has a goal of 100-million shots in arms in 100 days and is promising tens of millions of more doses to states in the next three weeks and buying hundreds of millions of more doses with a goal of most Americans being vaccinated by the end of the summer.

The summer of 2021 can’t come soon enough after the year we’ve been through already in 2020.
