How to Follow the Pandemic Game Plan

You’ve heard the warnings from public health officials this week about the Super Bowl having the potential to become a super spreader.

Just when cases and hospitalizations are on the decline, and the impact of the holidays is past us, they are worried that gatherings on Super Bowl Sunday could lead to another surge in coronavirus infections later this month.

Restaurants that are now open outdoors are being urged by San Diego County officials to follow L-A’s lead and not turn on the big screens on Sunday to help keep too many customers from gathering for too long. San Diego police say they’re stepping up their education and enforcement efforts this weekend at restaurants and bars and so are Alcoholic Beverage Control agents.

Police are making a point of saying that they can’t and won’t be snooping around neighborhoods looking for Super Bowl gatherings in homes. But that doesn’t mean you should not be careful about what you’re doing on Sunday.

While the public health orders for the last year have always been aimed at getting people to comply, the key to slowing spreads and surges of the virus has always been about taking personal responsibility to do the things you hear about on the radio all the time about masking, distancing and washing your hands.

If we are to finally get into the end zone in this battle against the virus, it will take each of us following the pandemic game plan that’s been drawn up for us.
