How to Find an Answer to Immigration Problem

It almost happened again. Just about two weeks after three people aboard a boat carrying more than two dozen illegal immigrants were killed when it crashed into the rocks off Point Loma, it almost happened again early Monday morning.

This time a boat carrying 23 illegal immigrants came 20 yards or so from smashing against rocks off Sunset Cliffs according to San Diego lifeguards. And it will likely happen again.

The Border Patrol said recently that the number of maritime huma smuggling attempts has increased dramatically since the first of the year. And there are no signs of it slowing down despite the sometimes fatal and always dangerous trips by unsafe boats trying to smuggle people into the U.S.

And in Texas the surge of people crossing the Rio Grande River in a boat, on a raft or swimming across continues. One county sheriff near the border in Texas said this week the problem needs to be addressed, expressing concern not only for national security but also for the plight of people from Mexico and Central America so desperate that they are willing to do desperate things.

This one sheriff blamed Congress and presidents going back 30 years for spending too much time blaming and fighting with each other instead of working together to find solutions to the nation’s complicated and divisive immigration problem, once and for all.
