How the Olympians Inspired Americans During Pandemic

The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which were delayed until 2021, are now history. And they will go down in the history books because of the COVID pandemic.

For the first time no spectators. And because of the fears and worries about the virus, there was likely more overall stress than usual on the athletes. But the Olympics came at a good time, during this summer of a continuing pandemic, because they were still inspiring, as they normally are.

In fact, a new survey indicates that the 2020 Olympics in 2021 may turn out to be even more inspiring. The survey found that two out of five people believe they have what it takes to be an Olympic athlete. 40 percent of the 1,000 people asked said they think they’re fit enough to compete in at least one summer or winter sport.

Watching Olympic athletes compete often inspires a few to pursue their dreams. But right now, we all can probably all use some inspiration as the fight against the worldwide virus goes on…and the physical, mental and social impacts that go along with it.

And like Olympic athletes, who fight through their challenges to get to the finish line, so will we as more people get vaccinated. So we can eventually make the pandemic…history.
